I am a PhD candidate at the Energy and Resources Group at U.C. Berkeley, and my research focuses on sustainable food systems and climate change education. I have worked in the San Juan Islands as both a Sustainable Agriculture Intern with the Lopez Community Land Trust, and as a researcher evaluating farm to school programs on the three major islands. I developed a curriculum for teaching farm to school students about climate change, and have adapted this food and climate curriculum for use in OUSD garden classrooms, as well as for use in farm-based learning contexts. Currently, I am working on a research team investigating urban agriculture in the East Bay region of the SF Bay Area, in order to identify challenges and opportunities for addressing food access and distribution. Other projects I have worked on while at Berkeley include a tiny house design-build project, and I am currently living in the off-grid tiny house that our team built as a test resident. Before coming to Berkeley, I was a teacher for two years in Boston with the AmeriCorps non-profit Citizen Schools.
