  The author is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Indiana University Northwest where she has taught for over twenty years and has won numerous teaching awards. She has published a book and over twenty articles in scholarly journals and edited volumes. These address her ethnographic research in a Hawaiian Kahuna’s alternative healing group as well as spiritual-religious groups such as Pagans, feminist Witches, and those practicing Goddess spirituality. In the last decade her research focus has shifted to a study of drumming circles as ritual tools for healing, spirituality, and creating community. She is currently working on a manuscript with a focus on drumming, healing, and social action. Less
