  Susan (Sue) Savage is Manager Community and Cultural Development at a large regional Council in Wollongong NSW Australia. She has worked in the community and cultural sector for 19 years and prior to that, 12 years in the aged and community services sector. Working from the platform of a local government authority has allowed Sue to develop and implement policy, contribute to strategic initiatives and vision, and deliver direct service to the community. She is passionate about the opportunity local government has in partnering with local artists, arts and cultural organisation to activate the city and to lead initiatives to make the city a better place to live, work, play and visit. This includes a commitment to developing the evening economy, delivering an engaging public art program, managing the Regional Art Gallery, creating safe and interesting spaces for engagement and activation across the city, placemaking and fulfilling the role of advocate, among other interesting roles. Sue is on the Board of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and supports many cultural activities and projects in the city. In 2017 Sue was awarded a PhD from the University of Wollongong for her research - investigating local government's ideal role in enhancing community liveability via the creative industries.
