Dr. Stephanie Merchant is a Lecturer in the Department for Health at the university of Bath. Her research focuses on visual methodological innovation and philosophically informed analyses of the tourist and leisure experience. More specifically, her work has built on and critiqued traditional conceptualizations of both the spatial and embodied elements of the adventure tourism encounter. Notable publications include “The Body and the Senses: Visual Methods, Videography and the Submarine Sensorium” in Body and Society (2011), “Negotiating Underwater Space: The Sensorium, the Body and the Practice of Scuba-Diving” in Tourist Studies (2011) and “The promise of creative participatory mapping practices for sport and leisure research” in Leisure Studies (2016).
