  Stephanie J. Coopman is Professor of Communication Studies at San José State University where she teaches courses in public speaking, persuasion, critical thinking, ethics, organizational communication, interpersonal communication, new media, small group communication, and communication theory. Her research interests include online learning, disability and communication, team communication, online representations of identity, and communication competence. Dr. Coopman has published articles in the American Communication Journal, Communication Education, Communication Research, Communication Yearbook, First Monday, Journal of Constructivist Psychology, Journal of Business Communication, and the Western Journal of Communication. Her public speaking text, Public Speaking: The Evolving Art (with James Lull), is now in its fourth edition. She edited the communication discipline’s premier online journal, the American Communication Journal, as well as the Western States Communication Association’s newsletter and website. She has received several Student Success Grants to promote student involvement in scholarly research. She served as department chair for five years and chair of the SJSU University Council of Chairs and Directors for three years.
