I am a self taught digital Artist based in Manchester, UK and advocate for the use of creativity to cope with facing challenges from long term illnesses. I took up Digital art following early reitrement due to an unexpected rare illness, that came on during my specialist rotation as a trainee doctor in Rheumatology. Exploring art and the human factor, making the invisible visible, my visual expressions aims to communicate the bigger picture of misunderstood, understated or ignored emotional, social, cultural, political and economic aspects influencing the lived experience with illness. Through my art, I would like to share how the 'creative force' empowered me; the impact digital art has on supporting me to take control and manage my condition. My work is centred on generating awareness about how creative engagement can be used as a tool to combat struggles encountered with long term illnesses, along with other therapies. Highlighting the potential use of digital medium for expression in cases where people wth limitations in hand function, who find conventional methods of drawng difficult. As well as provoke an interest on the topic of "how expressions of illness experiences" can help health practitioners, educators and the public gain new insights and better understanding on what the lived experience looks like. My continued interest in Medical Education and the intersections of art, health and medical humanities have led to my current affiliations with the Medical School, University of Manchester as a medical education partner. I am also part of Lived Experience Network(LENs), Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance UK; Arts, Health and Wellbeing, Special Interest Group, Royal Society of Public Health UK.
