Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Rifaat has earned notoriety and respect in both professional and academic worlds in the fields of architecture and urban planning. As a professor of architecture at the University of Houston and in practice as principle of SIR Architects & Planners in Houston, Texas, Mr. Rifaat has earned high praise and numerous awards for his creative talents and solid professional expertise. Whether developing master plans for communities at home and abroad, working with US-AID to design schools in Italy or designing private residences, public housing and four-star restaurants in Houston, Mr. Rifaat’s talents are widely recognized. His work has included the creation of a new town for the Ministry of Planning & Urbanization in Egypt and he has served as a consultant to the World Bank for community master planning on the Red Sea. After founding the graduate program of architecture at the University of Houston and heading that program for many years, Mr. Rifatt today lectures at the university on urban development and sustainable communities. He was invited by the Chinese government to lecture on urbanization at six major universities in that country.
