Sara Tomkins recently completed her PhD in the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her thesis analyzes the ways in which cultural and political connections between Jewish Americans and African Americans are articulated in contemporary comedy. Her research broadly addresses issues around racial satire, postmodern blackface, and the role of identity politics in race-based comedy. Sara also teaches at the University of Sydney with a particular interest in the fields of Critical Race Studies and transnational American Studies.
