Prof. Botha has been involved in the lecturing of African languages at the University of Fort Hare for over 25 years. His main field of interest is Xhosa literature. He has supervised several Doctoral and Master’s candidates in research projects related to the Xhosa novel, short story and the drama. He has also completed various publications on Xhosa literature and has presented papers at national and international conferences. At the international level, Prof. Botha has undertaken study visits to various university campuses in the USA and Germany in recent years. In 2002 he was invited to undertake research at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst campus). Since 2008, he has been a regular visitor to the Bayreuth International Graduate School for African Studies (BIGSAS) at the University of Bayreuth in Bayreuth, Germany. In 2013 he was offered a DAAD Scholarship to do research on African literature at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.
