Robert Cross was born in London, U.K. and studied for his B.A. in German and French at the University of Wales (awarded 1980), his M.A. in German Literature at UC Santa Barbara (awarded 1986), and his PhD in Theatre Studies at Lancaster University (awarded 2000). The title of his thesis is The Work of Steven Berkoff: Paradoxes in Performance and Self-Construction. Since 1995 he has been a professor at Doshisha Uiversity, Kyoto, Japan. His main research interests include media constructions of British and immigrant identity; British and Indian documentary; James Bond; British popular culture.
