Robin Behn, Professor of English at The University of Alabama, teaches in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program at The University of Alabama. She has published six books of poems including The Yellow House, Horizon Note, and Quarry Cross, and co-edited The Practice of Poetry: Writing Exercises from Poets Who Teach. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Alabama Arts Council Fellowship, Associated Writing Programs Award Series in Poetry Prize, and the Brittingham Prize from the University of Wisconsin Press. She has been awarded The Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award, Arts and Sciences Leadership Board Fellowship, and, for her creation of the Creative Writing Club for high school writers, a Faculty-Initiated Engagement Effort Award from the Council on Community-Based Partnerships. Based on that project, her collection of writing exercises for young writers, Once Upon a Time in the 21st Century: Unexpected Exercises in Creative Writing, will be published in 2017. Behn has taught creative writing in the state prisons of New York and Alabama, and a course on prison literature at The University of Alabama, where she co-directs the Prison Arts Program within the M.F.A. in Creative Writing Program.
