  Raja Lahiani is Tunisian. She has a BA in English language and literature (University of Sousse, Tunisia), an MA in comparative literature (University la Manouba, Tunisia) and a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the University of London. She taught English poetry, theories of translation and comparative stylistics in Tunisia, KSA and the UAE from 1999 tiil the present. She has publications in the fields of comparative literature and translation studies, including her PhD thesis published under recommendation of her examination jury: Eastern Luminaries Disclosed to Western Eyes: A Critical Evaluation of of the Translations of the Mu'allaqat into English and French (1782-2000).
