  I have been a professor and  academic administrator at Oregon State University Professor and Dept. Chair of English, Dean of Arts and Sciences and Northeastern University, Provost and Academic Vice President at the University of Central Florida and at Drexel University. I currently teach courses in American literature and culture at Drexel as a Distinguished University Professor. I created the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern and served as a founding member of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. Over the years, I have worked as a consultant on education and service programs for the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies, and from 2005-2017 for the New York Mets. I developed the English language programs for players at the Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic and provided advice on such progerams to the leadership of the MLB office in Santo Domingo. I regularly teach courses at Drexel in the literature and culture of baseball and in sport and social issues.
