Peter Summerlin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Mississippi State University. His research and teaching explore contemporary technology and landscape representation strategies as tools within the design process. Specifically, Peter has worked with 3D Scanning as a tool to study landform and drainage to facilitate both the instruction and practice of site grading. Peter’s focus in landscape representation emphasizes a hybrid digital and analog process. His teaching on landscape representation is highlighted on the website www.copytolayer.com and portions have been featured in the book Digital Drawing for Landscape Architecture. These tools and tactics are realized in his design work that focuses on sustainable stormwater management. His design studios have examined the various regional systems in Memphis, Tennessee and its surrounding communities, while also identifying specific opportunities to speculate and advocate for economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable development. Outside of his teaching and research responsibilities, Peter maintains his professional license and continues to practice in both the public and private sector.
