Marian Tye is director and professor of the Centre for Sport and Recreation Research (CSRR) – a partnership between Curtin University and the Department of Sport and Recreation, Western Australia. CSRR undertakes research that provides evidence to support the provision of sound and informed advice to industry, government and the community; and facilitates the development of strategic approaches to major issues impacting on sport and recreation in Western Australia.
Marian brings together multi-disciplinary research teams around themes including the impact of climate change in general and of water in particular on sport and recreation; participation of aboriginal communities; the role of urban and regional planning in providing appropriate infrastructure in new and existing communities; major structural adjustments forced on communities and the effects on the provision of sport and recreation services; the extent to which sport and recreation organisations have availed themselves of the opportunities provided by modern technology to improve their service delivery and how the industry can become more technology-literate; and the ways in which sport and recreation services will need to cater for changing demographics in order to ensure workplace well-being and to inculcate a culture of physical activity.
