Associate Professor Margaret Sims is the Programme Director Joondalup for the School of International, Cultural and Community Studies, Edith Cowan University. This means that she is responsible for all of the community work degree programmes operating out of the school. One of these is Children & Family Studies, the area in which she teaches. She has worked in a range of community settings with children and families. She ran a family support programme in an area characterised by a very high proportion of families at risk. She ran an inclusion programme for young children with disabilities and their families in the late 1980s when inclusion was a new idea. She ran a support programme to enable young adults with visual and other disabilities live in the community. She has worked in early intervention, supported accommodation and supported employment services. She has three children and four grandchildren. Her research interests are focused around community work with children and families, family support, and quality service delivery. Current research uses a biomarker of stress (salivary cortisol)as a tool to identify aspects of the environment in child care that have an impact on child outcomes.
