Dr Martin King is a Principal Lecturer in The Department of Social Care and Social Work at Manchester Metropolitan University, (m.king@mmu.ac.uk;0161 247 2541) where he heads up the BA (hons) Social Care programmes. In 2013 he published a book for Ashgate – Men, Masculinity and The Beatles –based on his PhD study. His current research agenda also includes further work on men and masculinities,an examination of the representation of violent sexual crime on UK TV, cultural representations of the 1970s and darkness, decay and masculinity, with particular reference to the work of fiction/faction authors David Peace and Gordon Burn, and the representation of social work in film and TV, a project which includes work with partners in Spain and Sweden. He has previously published in the field of Health in the Mass Media.He is a member of the editorial boards of Health,Illness and Loss,The International Journal of Criminology and Sociology and The Journal of Social Work Values and Ethics.He has also revewed for Men and Masculinities and Community ,Work and Families.
