Professor Esparza is the recipient of prestigious fellowships from the Ford Foundation (2010-2011)the National Endowment for the Humanities (2011-2012) and the Fulbright (declined). Currently, she is completing her second book, "Silenced Communities in the Aftermath of War and Genocide in Guatemala." From her research in Chile and Guatemala, professor Esparza has designed two new courses, "Crimes of due Obedience: Trials, Trends and Challenges" and "Indigenous People's Rights, Colonialism, and Identity." As the founder and director of the Historical Memory Project, Professor Esparza continues to collect local archives recording war atrocities in the region.
