Marisol del Teso Craviotto has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Cornell University (USA) and currently works as an Associate Professor at Miami University (USA). She has done extensive research in the area of language, gender, and sexuality, and their discursive representation on the media, with publications on the ideology of women’s magazines and on the construction of gender and sexuality in Internet chat rooms. Her present research explores relationships between language, discourse, and migration. She examines media and popular discourses on population displacements in which Spain has participated, and explores how these discourses contribute to the creation of a migration social imaginary. She has published articles on discursive racism against Latin American immigrants in Spain, and is currently working on the other side of the migration equation: how Spanish emigrants are discursively constructed vis-à-vis contemporary discourses on immigration. At Miami University, she teaches a variety of linguistics courses and is co-director of the study abroad program “Miami in Spain”. She also collaborates in an interdisciplinary project that tries to reduce obesity among low-income Hispanic children in the USA.
