Lynne Conner is chair of the Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a theatre and dance historian, cultural policy theorist and playwright. She is currently co-editor of the Routledge Companion to Audiences and the Performing Arts, a major reference work covering the field of audience research (forthcoming in 2021). Her other publications include the books Audience Engagement and the Role of Arts Talk in the Digital Era (Palgrave 2013), Pittsburgh in Stages: Two Hundred Years of Theatre (University of Pittsburgh Press 2007), In the Garden of Live Flowers (Dramatic Publishing Company 2003), and Spreading the Gospel of the Modern Dance: Newspaper Dance Criticism in the United States, 1850-1935 (University of Pittsburgh Press 1997). Conner has also published dozens of chapters, articles, and essays in a wide range of scholarly and industry publications. Dr. Conner was recently named a Distinguished Visitor at the University of Alberta, where she delivered a key-note address on current trends in the field of audience research. Over the years she has given scores of talks on cultural policy/audience studies related topics, including keynote addresses for the International Network for Audience Research (Leeds), Institute of the Americas (University of Toulouse), University of Chicago Cultural Policy Center, Salzburg Global Seminar, Toronto Creaive Trust, National Performing Arts Convention, Wallace Foundation, Boston Foundation, Grantmakers in the Arts, Dance USA and the American Symphony Orchestra League. Conner's most recent play, The Mother, is a 2018 and 2019 Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center National Playwright's Conference semi-finalist. The play will receive its world premiere at the Dramatic Repertory Company in Portland, Maine in March 2020.
