Professor Louvenia Jackson, MFT, ATR, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at Loyola Marymount University in the Graduate Department of Marital Family Therapy/ Art Therapy College of Communications and Fine Arts. She received her Ph.D. from Notre Dame de Namur University in a one of its kind doctoral art therapy program. Dr. Jackson also received her Master’s in Marriage and Family therapy and Art Therapy degree from Notre Dame de Namur University. Previously she received her BA in Fine Art from Morris Brown College. Dr. Jackson has extensive focus on cultural humility, acquiring new knowledge and self-exploration in art therapy. Louvenia ‘s current focus is on social and cultural foundations in art therapy. Louvenia supports cultural humility in art therapy education through the involvement of collective art projects with diverse cultural communities. Her dissertation focused on “Acquiring new knowledge through art self-exploration and collective journaling to enhance cultural humility in art therapy.” Her work on cultural humility and art therapy education has earned her the May 2016 Outstanding Service Award in the Art Therapy Psychology Department Ph.D. Program from Notre Dame de Namur University and the American Art Therapy Association 2016 Perlie Roberson Scholarship on behalf of the associations Multicultural Committee.
