I am Assistant Professor of German at Texas State University. My research focuses on postwar through contemporary German cinema. In my current book project, West German Genre Cinema in the 'Global Sixties,' I explore the relationship between politics and genre in popular West German films between 1967 and 1973. While scholarship on West German cinema has tended to focus on the New German Cinema--the internationally renowned West German art cinema movement in the late 1960s and 1970s--I argue that the popular films represent the global antiauthoritarian revolt in "1968" beyond its explicitly (left) political dimensions. The project sets out to challenge the antinomies between the "popular" and the "political" through which West German cultural production has tended to be read.
