I teach courses on American literature, cultural studies, and new media. I've published articles and chapters on proletarian literature, working-class cultural studies, higher education, and technology. I've presented at conferences in Havana and Mexico City (Hablo espanol!) as well as Rio de Janeiro, Detroit, and Germany. I've served as a reader or editor for journals like Radical Teacher, Working USA, and Academe (the magazine of the American Association of University Professors). I've actively participated in university governance, as an academic labor activist and, presently, chair of the SFSU Academic Senate. I'm currently very interested in the intersections between new self-organizing social movements (Occupy, Acampadas, etc.) and new technological cultures of participation and collaboration.
