Laura A. Mitchell is an assistant professor at the University of Houston/Downtown. She teaches Bilingual Education, Literacy, and Culture in Schools in the Department of Urban Education. She completed her Doctorate of Education in the School of Educational Leadership and Change at Fielding Graduate University. Laura’s passion for teaching and learning has led her to the University of Houston/Downtown. With her experience working in elementary schools as a bilingual education teacher, campus coordinator, and an assistant principal for the past 30 years, she combined her passions for teaching multilingual students, leading teachers in discovering their own teaching passions. She has created an open and inviting learning environments to dialogue about culture, identity, and beliefs. By utilizing the principles of invitational learning, she creates learning environments that challenge others to explore their cultural identity, beliefs, and assumptions.
