I am currently an academic in the School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance.
I also teach in MBA programmes in a Graduate Business School.
My creativity, passion, and drive to take on cutting-edge research in South Africa have focused on the economics of education and socio-economic development using large data sets and longitudinal research methods (Involving my PostDocs, Ph.D. Candidates, Doctorate Candidates, and Masters students).
My teaching commitments and philosophy: careful preparation of courses/modules enables me to transform complex and technical concepts into easily understood examples in the context of global scholarship and perspectives. I provide a wide range of interventions, including inter alia offering scaffolded academic and non-academic support to help students successfully navigate their studies and university life.
On the broader level, I served as a member of the Council on Higher Education’s (www.che.ac.za) Teaching and Learning Task Team that conducted a 20-year review of the state of South African Higher Education, highlighting the challenges and developments and future prospects (2014-2015).
I served as a member of the economic and management National Research Foundation (NRF) Advisory Panel to review the applications for the (1) Competitive Programme for Rated Researchers (CPRR), (2) Competitive Programme for Un-Rated Researchers (CSUR), and Research Development Grants for Y-Rated Researchers – NRF (2016).
