...MoreDr. Hurley has degrees from Western Illinois and Purdue Universities in physical education, kinesiology, and gerontology with a research focus on self-perceptions across the lifespan. Dr. Hurley’s research projects include examination of physical self-perceptions and quality of life indices among community dwelling older adults, adult self-identity and psycho-behavioral health outcomes related to physical activity, use of self- and social-comparisons in older adults, and assessment of psychological health indices among adults. Specific research projects include both qualitative and quantitative methodology, examination of mature adult competitive athletes, and large scale survey research of adults in independent living communities in midwest communities. Her findings have been presented at the Gerontological Society of America Scientific Sessions, Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, American Society of Aging, Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. Dr. Hurley has published in International Quarterly for Community Health Education, Health Psychology Report, and the Journal for Sport and Exercise Psychology along with published abstracts in The Gerontologist. Dr. Hurley continues research in survey examination and validation for older adult self-constructs.
