Kendra Schank Smith is a Professor in the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University. She holds a Ph.D. in the History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture from Georgia Tech. She has a professional Masters degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Education from Southern Illinois University. Dr. Smith practiced in the architectural office of the Pritzker Prize winning architect Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates in Hamden, Connecticut. Dr. Smith has over twenty-five years of academic experience at several universities in North America, including the University of Minnesota and the University of Utah. She has published on topics of visualization and representation, urbanism, diversity, architectural history and pedagogy. These publications include two books on architectural sketches and a third book pertaining to design process. Her upcoming book, Building the Architect’s Character; an exploration in Traits, will be released in December 2017 from Routledge Press. Kendra has served on the national/international boards of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Canadian Council of University Schools of Architecture, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and the Journal of Architectural Education. In 2014, she was elected to the RAIC College of Fellows.
