  Kevin earned his Ph.D. in Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Arts Education and Performance Studies from Claremont Graduate University, and currently serves as the Director of the Visual and Performing Arts Education (VAPAE) Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. Knowing how important the arts were to his own education, Kevin has dedicated his career to making artistic, creative, educational, and career opportunities accessible to youth of all backgrounds. A devoted arts education scholar and community arts practitioner, Kevin began his own artistic training at 14 years old as a scholarship student in ballet, music, and theatre arts in his hometown of Philadelphia. He later went on to earn a BFA degree in Theatre Arts from Hoftsra University and a MFA degree in Dance Choreography from the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/ Dance, where he later served as an adjunct assistant professor for ten years. At UCLA, Kevin also worked as a summer arts program director and a member of the undergraduate admissions committtee. Prior to that, Kevin spent eight years as a classroom teacher at John Marshall High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where her developed a multidisciplinary performing arts program called Theatre Workshop, introducing and involving many hundreds of high school youth in the creation of original dance theatre productions. Still committed to the teaching practice, Kevin has designed and teaches the Introduction to Community Engagement through the Arts GE class in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, and is on the faculty of the Los Angeles High School of the Arts, teaching the Introduction to Theatre class there. Kevin also co-founded and served as the Executive Director of The Flourish Foundation, a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to support young people wishing to participate in the arts and higher education, and to fund arts programs for youth in the Los Angeles area.
