As a ceramist I have always focused my practice on elements of material culture and human object engagement, more specifically examining banal objects with seemingly little value. My PhD research, on which this paper is focused, explored a little known and accessed collection of 'unwanted' objects appropriated by a cider factory. These vessels sit in the liminal space between being obsolete as functional objects and the margins of collectability. Other research has considered the pottery production of the women of Barvas on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I teach 3D (ceramics and sculpture) on a modular degree course (BA) and Contemporary Context at Masters level.
