Karen Nonis graduated from the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a BSc (1st Class Hons) and proceeded to complete her PhD at the same University. She was involved in many research projects during her undergraduate and then post-graduate years at the UWA. In the years leading to her completion of her Hons and PhD she was also part-time tutor at the Department of Anatomy and Human Biology and Human Movement and Exercise Science, UWA. Having completed her PhD, she then moved relocated to Singapore where she was Principal in a Special School for children with Cerebral Palsy and Physical Disabilities. Her calling was to continue in teacher education and research at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore at the Department of Early Childhood and Special Needs Education. Her experience includes her leadership as Principal in a Special School, to Master Coordinator for all Special Schools in Singapore and mentorship to colleagues in the Professional Experience (Teaching Practicum), teaching and supervision of beginner students in regular classrooms and Early Childhood Educational Centres and Masters and PhD students. In addition, she has worked closely with the International Office at the National Institute of Education in consultancy programmes in Educational and Leadership Programmes for the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain and The Singapore Armed Forces between 2009 and 2014. She is external consulting editor for the Journal of the International Association of Special Education (USA) and Early Childhood, Development and Care (UK).
