  Karen Allen is a Professor of Social Work at Indiana Unversity Bloomington. She received her Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology from Oakland University and her MSW and PhD from Wayne State Unviersity in Detroit, MI. After receiving her MSW she worked for over twenty years in health and mental health care as a clinical social worker and administrator. Her clinical practice primarily involved working with individuals and families affected by severe illness and trauma including burns, spinal cord injuries, head injuries, cancer and neurological disorders. As a hospital social work administrator, she oversaw the departments of quality assurance, utilization review, social work, case management, and infection control. She has developed and taught trauma informed curricula and courses at graduate and undergraduate levels and has most recently has been working with trauma survivors.
