  Karen L Harris is a full professor and Head of the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She lectures in both history as well as heritage and cultural tourism. She has pioneered and developed degree courses from undergraduate to postgraduate level in tourism at one of the first universities in South Africa to embark on this field in the Faculty of Humanities. She has been commissioned by the National Department of Tourism to conduct collaborative research on tourism to develop both public and private capacity. She is an accredited cultural tourist guide. She is also the Director of the University Archives.
