J. P. Short (Ph. D. Columbia University) is associate professor of modern European history at the University of Georgia. A specialist in the cultural and social history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century continental Europe, as well as modern European imperialism, he has published articles on the social, cultural and visual history of German imperialism and is author of the book Magic Lantern Empire: Colonialism and Society in Germany, published by Cornell University Press in 2013. He is currently at work on a history of global consciousness in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Europe, a wide-ranging transnational study of culture, experience and globalization. His courses examine all aspects of modern Europe: social, political, cultural and intellectual.
