  Award-winning journalist Johanna Keller was named by Musical America as one of the 30 most influential professionals in the music industry in 2014. Her writing on music and culture has appeared in The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Los Angeles Times, Hopkins Review, and Opera News. For her essays in The New York Times, she received the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award and the Front Page Award from the Newswomen's Club. Keller teaches writing, criticism, arts journalism, newspaper reporting and diversity courses at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. In 2003, she designed and founded the Goldring Arts Journalism graduate program, serving as director until 2015, when she stepped down to devote more time for research projects. She has been a Journalism Fellow at USC Annenberg-Getty and at Canada's Banff Centre, and received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation. She served on the national board of directors of the Music Critics Association of North America, and was a principal organizer of the 2005 National Critics Conference in LA.
