John Henry Blatter is an installation artist who has been working as the Interdisciplinary Technology and Media Manager and faculty member for the VCUarts Depot since 2014, where he mentors and facilitates artists and designers in the pursuit of collaboration and exploration of all types. John Henry's installations explore the themes of identity, body and self. Currently he is working with hemisphrereical video and Virtual Reality to create fully immersive or embodied experiences. His installations and collaborative works have been exhibited in New York, Miami, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Omaha, Pittsburg as well as internationally in British Columbia, Basel and Istanbul. He was Artist in Residence in the High Arctic, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art and the Vermont Studio Center and a recipient of the Jacob Javits Fellowship. Blatter was the founder and editor-in-chief of the Daily Constitutional, an artist run publication that focused on teh Artist's voice. Recently, John and collaborator, Jill B Ware became essential research partners with the international virtual reality team, BeAnotherLab working on empathy and embodiment through emerging technologies in Virtual Reality. The collaborative team have recently won the VCUarts Inclusion Infusion Grant, the VCUarts Exploratory Research Grant and the VCUarts Faculty Inclusion Grant to further thier research goals.
