My academic preparations in Psychology (BS, ’98), Biological Sciences (MS, ‘01) and Anthropology (MS, ‘06), have facilitated a studied appreciation for the range of sociocultural complexities and socioeconomic challenges that inform many students' academic processes. At the same time, my life experiences have enlarged my perspective on individual agency and evidenced repeatedly our ability to overcome difficult circumstances. As a professional, I have contributed to educational services in capacities ranging from outreach to curriculum and program development, mentorship, and resource identification and acquisition on behalf of domestic and international organizations. These and other professional involvements have allowed me to build a knowledge base and record of achievement among every grade level from primary and secondary school to post-secondary education. Over the course of my career I have found significant drops in student interest, understanding and/or participation during these fall-off points. I am interested in helping to determine the underlying causes of this phenomenon and to participate in creating and implementing structural approaches that will insure increased student retention through completion of college, especially among low income minority students.
