Dr. Jacquelyn Hamm Southern holds an A.B. in sociology from Bryn Mawr College, an M.S. in labor studies from the Labor Center, UMass Amherst, and a Ph.D. in geography from Clark University, where her dissertation focused on the first grass-roots antinuclear protest in the nation, organized by three unions in the 1950s. Dr. Southern has served as Associate Director and Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in American Studies, Trinity College, Hartford, taught at York College of the City University of New York, in African American Studies, and in Commonwealth College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she teaches in The Labor Center. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Southern has presented conference papers in multiple disciplines and published in academic journals and popular magazines.
