Dr Martin worked for a number of years as an archivist at the Labour History Archive at the People’s History Museum in Manchester. She left in 2006 to start a PhD at the University of York on nineteenth century political movements. In May 2010 she started work on the Yeoman Warder Oral History Project at the University of Huddersfield, a post which combines her interest in academic history, oral history and heritage. She is currently writing a book on nineteenth century political lecturing in the North of England. Janette co-ordinated the Luddite Link partnership and was involved in numerous community and public events surrounding the bicentenary of Yorkshire Luddism, a project which reflects her research interests in radical and labour history. She is on the executive committee for the Society for the Study of Labour History and an active member of the Huddersfield Local History Society. Janette teaches on heritage modules at the University of Huddersfield.
