Jan Abramovitz, PhD is an associate professor of practice in Curriculum and Instruction at Portland State University. He completed his docorate at Oregon State University in Teacher Leadership and holds a masters degree from Columbia University Teachers College. He has a specific interest in arts education and kinesthetic learning. Jan was a founding member of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics as well as the Oregon Teacher Arts Institute. Formerly on the dance education faculties of New York University and Lesley University, Jan continues to work with children through his role as a teaching artisit with The Vibrant Classroom and The Right Brain Initiative. Jan has a special interest in intercultural collaborations and has taught in such diverse settings as rural villages in India, developement towns in Israel, indigenous communities in the Canadian Arctic, parochial schools in Ireland and inner city schools in Harlem and the Bronx New York. He has served as a teacher leader for the Alaska Arts Education Consortium's Summer Arts Institute for the past eight years.
