I have worked as a Senior Programme Officer with the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications for nine years (2009-2019). My work entailed overseeing information generation, knowledge management and communication to diverse stakeholders in Africa to enable informed decision making on the use of the technology. It also involved building capacity in science communication among various stakeholders such as scientists, academia and media to bridge the gap between scientist and the general public. Prior to joining ISAAA I worked as a senior research scientist with the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) for 23 years. I have been involved in basic agronomic research, on-farm testing and adoption and impact evaluation of fruits and vegetables in the East African region. I was a team leader of the Award winning tissue cultured-banana partnership project in Kenya and Tanzania from 1997-2003. The project involved performance evaluation of tissue cultured-banana both under research conditions and farmer-managed conditions, dissemination of the materials in different agro-ecological zones and evaluation of adoption impact under varying farmer conditions. The project was implemented with various partners including IDRC, Rockefeller Foundation, ISAAA, KARI, SARI, Farmer organizations, micro-credit providers among others. I am currently back at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation as a Senior Research Scientist.
