  Emily Stokes-Rees is Associate Professor and Program Director of the Graduate Program in Museum Studies at Syracuse University, as well as Associate Director of the Syracuse School of Design. She previously taught at Harvard and Brown Universities, and has held positions in museums in Canada, Great Britain, and the United States. Her research interests lie, broadly, in museums, exhibitions, and heritage sites which challenge conventional modes of representation, envisioning a new order of museum studies that conceives of itself outside of traditional authoritative structures. Some recent publications include “A Tale of Two Missions: Common Pasts/Divergent Futures at Transnational Historic Sites” (Public Historian, 2017); “Re-thinking Anne: Interpreting Japanese heritage at a quintessentially Canadian site” (Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change, forthcoming 2017); and “The Museum as Petri Dish: Hacking Harvard’s Museum of Natural History” (Exhibition, 2016).
