  | am a professor of media and communication at the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. My research and teaching focus on popular media, new screen ecologies and participatory cultures. My recent projects address media as food imediaries and their role in the transition to sustainable foodways and healthy diets. I am involved in Utrecht Universitys interdisciplinary research hub Future Food as representative of the Humanities. I acted as scientific co-ordinator of the EUscreenXL projcect, a collaboration of 32 European television archives, univerities and softeware companies creating acces to Europe's audivisual heritage online. I am also the co-ordinator of the EU-funded project 'European History Reloaded: Circulation and Appropriations of Digitized European Heritage' in co-operation with Umeå University (SE) and the Academy of Science, Prague (CZ). Earlier research focused on television entertainment, reality TV and participatory cultures.
