The author is an architect and a researcher born in Karachi, Pakistan. She received a BArch degree from the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan and an MSc. in Urban Management and Development (specialisation in Land Development), from the Institute of Housing and Development Studies, Erasmus University, Rotterdam. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture where she pursues one of her two main interests- looking at architecture design as a problem solving activity that encourages looking at designing of space as designing of a system. Her second interest lies in looking at the city as a complex system drawing understanding from natural living systems. Her four year work experience at, Arif Hasan-Architect and Consultant, and one year at IHS, Rotterdam, helped to evolve the understanding of cities. Aside from teaching she currently pursues research to document and understand the existing land management and development systems of Karachi, Pakistan
