EDUCATION

    • M.S. Journalism
    • September 2016 to April 2017

Practical journalism curriculum in one of the country's most well-regarded communication schools. Focus on reporting, column writing, online journalism, arts criticism, and media criticism, I completed a directed study under Dr. Michelle Amazeen that focused on native advertising and political media research, which helped me develop my master's thesis. I wrote about the impact of digital media on U.S. higher education in the 2016-2017 U.S. political climate, demonstrated by public relations challenges and instances of campus discord. My research paper - "Bill Simmons: The New Journalism Tradition in the Internet Age" - is the foundation for the newer research I wish to present at this conference. It examines elements of “new journalism” in the works of Bill Simmons, particularly his connection to Hunter S. Thompson, and his impact on media ethics. I presented at the 2018 AJHA Convention.
