Christina Chin-Newman is Assistant Professor of Human Development at California State University, East Bay, where she teaches courses on child development, social and emotional development, and research. She holds a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from UC Santa Cruz, and an Ed.M. from Harvard University. Her research specialty is child and adolescent development and the arts. She has studied what participants of the Diversity Mural Project perceive to be the benefits of being involved in a collaborative community art project, as well how their participation in artistic activities has affected their social relationships. Another research project that Dr. Chin-Newman is affiliated with is the Talented Student Research Project, a longitudinal study of teenagers talented in the arts. Other research interests include the musical talent of absolute pitch, and creativity.
