Dr Cathryn (Cate) Morriss is a researcher, writer and educator with a professional background lecturing and teaching in the fields of peace and conflict, sociology, Pacific Island politics, international security, international community development, international politics, feminist theory, and gender studies. She is also an independent education consultant. Cate has worked closely with Papuan and Indonesian education professionals to facilitate advanced professional learning on the topic of gender inclusive education. Having a strong commitment to women’s equality, Cate has been involved in a number of projects that support Asia-Pacific women into politics, facilitated workshops on gender inclusive approaches to peace-building, women and constitutional reform, and has worked as a gender advisor for youth and women’s community development organisations. Previous works include Gender and Inclusive Education: Managing the Education Environment (2011), Gender Inclusive Approaches to Peacebuilding: NGO Handbook for staff training (2008) and Feminist Theory in International Relations: A workbook and resources manual for NGO training (2008). Cate also writes fiction,with a particular interest in historically located feminist themes. Her most recent fictional work includes the young reader’s fantasy novella 'Anastasia… a journey' (2012), based loosely on the life of infamous Irish pirate Grace O’Malley.
