Carolyn Schutten is a Visiting Fellow at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at University of California San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy and was a Resident Scholar at University of California Institute for Mexico and the United States. She is a Ph.D. Candidate in History at University of California Riverside and is currently a partner for Humanities Action Lab's Initiative on Migration, Climate Justice, and Environmental Justice. Schutten holds a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis in environmental planning and a master's degree in Public History with an emphasis in museum curatorship. She recently presented at The Getty Center, Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association, the American Society of Environmental Historians, and Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West. She has received awards from University of California Institute for Mexico and the United States, Blum Initiative on Global and Regional Poverty, California Studies Consortium, and the Center for Ideas and Society, among others. Schutten is an active public historian and curator. She is also interested in digital humanities and has produced short films and managed GIS projects, including "Mapping Riverside's Latinx Cultural Landscape."
