Dr. Carla Houkamau is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management and International Business. Carla was a MIB Post-Doctoral Fellow (2007), Health Research Council of New Zealand Postgraduate (PhD) Scholar (2000), Auckland University Graduate Scholar (1999), New Zealand Psychological Society Presidents Scholar (2000) and was awarded the University of Auckland Senior Prize for Management & Employment Relations in 1998. Carla is a capable new career academic and researcher, and has begun to build her publication pipeline, drawing both on her doctoral research and on new initiatives that she has developed collaboratively in the Department. Over the last two years Carla has combined her psychological and business training to develop a very strong interest in diversity management in the work place (including gender relations in organisations and cross-cultural issues in management).
Carla is currently involved in several research projects which cohere around diversity and multi-culturalism in New Zealand society (including research into cross-cultural differences in time orientations in New Zealand employees and the development of a culturally sensitive measure of financial literacy for Māori).
