Brian Kisida, Ph.D., is an assistant research professor in the Department of Economics and the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. He has more than a decade of experience in rigorous program evaluation and policy analysis. His research focuses on identifying effective educational options and experiences for at-risk students that can close the achievement gap, the experience gap and the attainment gap. His research has examined the educational benefits of cultural institutions, school-community partnerships, art and music education, scholastic chess and teacher diversity. His current research projects include experimentally evaluating an arts-enhancement program in the Houston Independent School District, experimentally evaluating the civic outcomes of students learning about the Holocaust in a school partnership program with the Houston Holocaust Museum, and experimentally evaluating a large-scale afterschool scholastic chess program in Ferguson Public Schools in St. Louis. Dr. Kisida’s research has been published in reputable academic journals, such as the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Educational Researcher, Sociology of Education, and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and featured in The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, CNN, The Washington Post, and Education Week.
