Athanasios (Sakis) Pappous’s research interests include the social and psychological aspects of physical activity and health, sports media and issues of disability, minorities, gender, race and nationalism, active living and health promotion. He has conducted research and worked in four European countries: Greece (Athens), Spain (Granada) France (Montpellier), and he is presently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent (UK). Dr. Pappous holds a Ph.D. from the University of Granada and he has worked as an expert advisor to the Bulgarian Children, Youth and Sports Affairs Parliamentarian Committee. Dr. Pappous was also employed as a Supervisor for the Organizing Committee of the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Greece. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Intra-European Research Fellowship, financed by the European Commission; the purpose of this fellowship was to conduct research on Paralympic media coverage in five European countries. During the last two years, Dr. Pappous has been invited as a guest speaker to five international events (Doha, Qatar 2008; Nuevo Leon, Mexico 2007; Monterrey, Mexico 2007; Medellin, Colombia, 2007; Melilla, Spain 2007).
